THE ORIGIN of the Calcutta Boys' School is closely linked with the establishment of the Methodist Episcopal Church (now the MCI) in India. On January 9th,1873, the Reverend Dr. William Taylor, a famous evangelist, founded the work of the Methodist Church in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and established the first Methodist Church in Zigzag Lane, Bow bazaar, which in 1874 shifted to Dharamtalla Street (now Lenin Sarani) and was later named the Thoburn Methodist Church in memory of Rev. James Mills Thoburn (1836-1922) D.D.; LL.D., (later Missionary Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church).

BHOWANIPUR ARYA VIDYAMANDIR was established in 1949 and it is managed by the Pvt. Unaided. It is located in Urban area. It is located in KOLKATA MUNICIPALITY block of KOLKATA district of West Bengal. The school consists of Grades from 1 to 12. The school is Girls and it have an attached pre-primary section. The school is N/A in nature and is not using school building as a shift-school. English is the medium of instructions in this school. This school is approachable by all weather road. In this school academic session starts in April.

Khalsa High School, completing 92 years of existence, since its foundation on 1st Nov 1933 with nearly 33 pupils at Bakul Bagan, was shifted to a rented building at Ashutosh Mukherjee Road in 1934 and was finally moved to its present site at 73, Padda Pukur Road Kolkata 700020 in 1936.

Owned by Gurdwara Bara Sikh Sangat, it was founded with the object of providing a through general education of high standard, primarily for the Sikh boys and girls and generally for children of all communities.

National Gems School was founded in 1968 with an objective to spread the light of knowledge and information to all segments of the society.

The Shaw Education Foundation was formed in 1993 and the journey of National Gems Higher Secondary School saw the breaking of a new dawn. It shifted to a new campus which now houses the Junior School that caters to the Pre-Primary (Lower Nursery to Kindergarten) and Primary (Class I to IV) sections. A phenomenal growth followed the affiliation of the school to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, in 1995. This necessitated a bigger space to meet the growing demand.
